Lesson 1

Life is so different from the past.

Read the following passages and answer the questions.

ҹͧ仹еͺӶ

Bangkok today has changed a lot from the past. The city is more crowded. The population is much bigger than 50 years ago. It is more difficult to find a quiet place to relax, and the density is even higher in urban areas with so many factories. Constructions can be seen in every corner and there are many means of public transport now: sky trains, underground trains, buses, taxis and motorcycle taxi. The kind of civilization does bring Bangkok a sea of people looking for work and better quality of life.

In the past, the pace of life was much slower. The green scenery was seen everywhere; therefore it was much cooler with the average temperature of 77  F (25  C). People lived more scatteringly along the river and traveled mostly by boats. Bangkok in the past was one of the most peaceful cities in the world.
