AELC
Australian English Language Course
|
|
The
Australian English Language Course (AELC) is designed for use by language
schools and teachers in teaching Australian English to students who
are to undertake training in Australia, under the Defence Cooperation
and related Training programs. Service personnel and civilians in
Defence-related appointments from regional countries undertake training
and courses at Australian Defence Force units and selected civilian
institutions.
|
|
Australian
English is now recognised as a distinct form of English - in many
ways quite different from British or American English. Students who
are unfamiliar with Australian English and who are undergoing training
in Australia for the first time may experience some difficulty with
the Australian accent as well as the frequent use of colloquial and
idiomatic language. At the same time, however, the ability to use
Australian English will enable the students to communicate with other
English speakers, since Australian English is easily understood by
all who use English as a first second language.
|
|
The Australian
English Language Course consists of three parts, known as the Initial,
Intermediate, and Specialist Phases.
